The Oceanside Sand Nourishment and Retention Pilot Project – Phase 2 -  RE:BEACH is well underway!

RE:BEACH is a Coastal Resilience Competition bringing together 3 design teams from around the world to develop innovative sand retention pilot projects for the City of Oceanside. Only 1 team, and their winning design, will be selected to move into final engineering and permitting at the completion of the competition.

Come out and be a part of the process this Tuesday at the first of three public workshops where you can hear firsthand from the three design teams about their designs and approach to restoring resilience to our shoreline!

This global design competition consists of three talented teams coming to Oceanside City Hall on Tuesday, August 29th, 4-7pm. They will bring forward the most innovative, multi-beneficial, and feasible solutions to preserve sandy beaches in Oceanside. They need us to help provide feedback to ensure the best designs are considered to RE:SAND and RE:STORE our beaches. This workshop will allow you to collaborate with the design teams and provide input on their initial ideas before they move on to the next round of designs.

Hey Osiders! It’s time for the first (very EXCITING) public workshop for RE:BEACH - the Coastal Resilience Design Competition that will help shape the coastline of Oceanside.

The public workshop is August 29th, at Oceanside City Hall from 4-7pm and this is something you definitely want to check out.

Come out and learn about the design competition that will help retain sand on our beaches, restore and enhance our once thriving natural ecosystems, and ultimately improve our coastal community for years to come. This international design contest will have an end goal of choosing a pilot design to help retain sand on our shores and provide resiliency to our communities.

Take action and email your city council to request the City of Del Mar to not approve the proposed resolution of opposing Oceanside’s sand retention.

THIS TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 22nd, DEL MAR CITY COUNCIL IS SCHEDULED TO VOTE ON A RESOLUTION IN ATTEMPTS TO STOP OCEANSIDE’S SAND RETENTION DEVICE PROJECT.

What this means: Del Mar’s City Council is voting to OPPOSE Oceanside’s proposed construction of sand retention devices, ie (groins).

How you can help: Request the City of Del Mar to remove the item from the city agenda, or not approve the proposed resolution.

The Coast Line - SOS Newsletter - Summer 2021

Sand is a precious commodity on Oceanside beaches. The City Council unanimously voted 2 years ago to pursue and fund an engineering study to restore area beaches. A thorough evaluation process ranked characteristics of each of the options to conclude that a groin field best suits the conditions in Oceanside. Lead engineer Brian Leslie from GHD suggested that a pilot project of 4 groins be installed and monitored along the South Strand to establish their effect on sand retention.

We are celebrating a big milestone as the City Council has voted to fund a Sand Retention and Replenishment Study. The study will be contracted out to GHD Group, a professional engineering firm with extensive experience designing coastal improvement projects. This is a very important first step towards restoring our beaches, thank you City Council and Public Works Director Kiel Kroger!
