Innovative Retention Strategies That Lead the Way.
The RE:BEACH pilot project is a nature-based solution combining two artificial headlands to stabilize the back beach and an offshore artificial reef to slow down nearshore erosive forces. These constructs will help to retain the sand nourishment component and rebuild beach width.
It’s a regional and national first — and Oceanside is leading the way. But this pilot only covers a fraction of our shoreline. We’re pushing for full implementation sooner than projected.

Restored Beaches Start with Smart Policy.
Science can’t do it alone.
We need policies that secure long-term funding, fast-track sand projects, that prioritizes beach restoration and coastal resiliency projects in our city plans, as well as state plans.
SOS is mobilizing the community to hold decision-makers accountable — and shape a future that puts the beach first.
Oceanside isn’t the first city to face this problem,
but if we act now, we can be leaders in solving it.
With a local permit, a visionary pilot project, and a community that cares — the tools are here. Cities across the globe have shown these solutions work. Now it’s our turn.
