Fellow Oceanside Beach Lovers, WOW! The 2nd RE:BEACH public workshop was an amazing event with three design teams presenting more refined potential solutions for restoring and retaining sand on our beaches. The RE:BEACH team also provided some breaking information on littoral sand transport behavior on our shoreline and near-term efforts for sand nourishment on our shoreline. Thank you to the over 250 concerned residents who took the time to attend in person and engage in dialogue with the competition design teams and each other. The updated design solutions reflected feedback via the RE:BEACH website surveys. Over 400 people provided comments/feedback on the 1st workshop designs. Keep that feedback coming via rebeach.org! For those of you who were not able to make it in person or those who want to review the updated 2nd workshop designs presented, all three design team videos are now posted. As most of you know RE:BEACH is a Coastal Resilience Competition bringing together three design teams from around the world to develop innovative sand retention pilot projects for the City of Oceanside. Only one team, and their winning design, will be selected to move into final engineering and permitting at the completion of the competition. Interested in getting involved with SOS outdoors, on the shoreline? Join our Citizen Science group, which has been collecting data on our coastline for 4 years now. This data is used by UCSD/SIO labs, the US Army Corps and other engineering firms who are developing solutions for our shoreline issues. Join SOS Citizen Science by clicking here. SOS desires to grow in the areas of outreach and education about the potential solutions to protect our coastal habitat by restoring our beaches. We are happy to have secured the talents of one of our long-time members, Lynn Abaté-Johnson/Kenwood Consulting, to spearhead SOS fundraising and volunteer coordination. With increased resources, we will be able to accomplish so much more! Please welcome Lynn as we embark on fundraising opportunities by teaming up with local businesses.
