Dear Save Oceanside Sand Advocates,In September, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) presented two briefs on the San Diego County Shoreline (Oceanside) mitigation study. This is a study they recommenced to identify a solution to mitigate the shoreline erosion caused by the construction of Camp Pendleton Harbor. The least cost solution that is environmentally acceptable and meets the study’s objectives will be recommended. Additional authorization and funding would be required for construction. SOS supports beach and habitat restoration that is sustainable and responsible. We find the least cost approach acceptable in developing alternatives 1 and 2, with alternative 3 being unacceptable. Most importantly, SOS believes that close, regular coordination between USACE and City of Oceanside is critical. The Study and RE:BEACH should be undertaken as complementary efforts, with the result being the best possible beach restoration project for the Oceanside shoreline.We encourage you to submit your comments on the alternatives currently under development by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to mitigate the shoreline erosion caused by the construction of Camp Pendleton Harbor. All comments on the San Diego County Shoreline (Oceanside) Mitigation Study must be received no later than Thursday, October 31st.
