On Wednesday January 31st, Oceanside City Council is scheduled to vote to move forward on the RE:BEACH winning design concept: β€œLiving Speed Bumps” from ICM.

RESTORED BEACHES = RESTORED HABITAT

Dear Save Oceanside Sand Advocates,

Please join us and other supporters this Wednesday evening (January 31st) at City Hall to witness a significant milestone in our city’s history of developing a solution to restore our beaches.  The Oceanside City Staff will present the staff report for the RE:BEACH OCEANSIDE WINNING DESIGN WORKSHOP to our City Council and request the following:

  • Approve the staff and jury recommended selection of International Coastal Management as the winning design team, with its Living Speed Bumps concept.

  • Approve the staff and jury recommended modifications to the selected design concept.

  • Authorize staff to proceed with final design, engineering and environmental compliance tasks of the Phase 2 Sand Nourishment and Retention Pilot Project.

This Living Speed Bumps concept provides not only a proven solution to our problem, but also a sound, sustainable and responsible design approach to sand nourishment and retention for our shoreline.  Over the past 80+ years, no San Diego County coastal city has undertaken such a bold project as Oceanside’s Phase 2 pilot project to restore and retain sand on its beaches.

   

SOS is seeking an unanimous vote of approval by our city council for this staff report request.  You can support the solution and be a part of history by taking the following actions:

  • Show up in person at City Council Chambers this Wednesday, January 31st @ 5:30 PM. The City Council public workshop starts at 5:30 with presentations by our Coastal Zone Administrator Jayme Timberlake,  ICM Principal Engineer Aaron Slayer and GHD Principal Engineer Bryan Leslee.  

  • Speak in support of the solution and request unanimous approval at the workshop. To speak at the workshop, show up early and sign up at the kiosk inside city council chambers.

  • Hit the link below to send a pre-crafted email to the city council supporting the solution and requesting a unanimous approval of the staff report.
